Red Cross Stands Ready To Respond To Tropical Storm Isaac

At the American Red Cross Capital Area Chapter as the ominous weather reports began coming in, we started identifying shelters, mobilizing supplies, readying disaster workers and coordinating with government and community partners.

Residents in the Big Bend area should finalize hurricane plans and update their emergency supplies kit.  The Red Cross recommends three quick steps to be prepared for emergencies such as hurricanes – build a kit, make a plan and be informed.

The Red Cross prepares year-round for domestic storms such as Isaac.  We have loaded shelter trailers ready to deploy if shelters are opened stocked with cots, blankets and comfort kits.  Our mobile feeding trailer and our Emergency Response Vehicle are also at the ready if needed.

A new, helpful preparedness tool is the free Red Cross Hurricane App which puts real-time, hurricane safety information at your fingertips.  The app features information on Red Cross shelters, as well as a toolkit with a digital flashlight, strobe light and alarm.  The Hurricane App can be downloaded free of charge in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for “American Red Cross.”
Residents wanting to volunteer with the Red Cross should call 878-6080 now before the storm hits to get trained.  Human resources is one of our most critical needs during a disaster.

By working year round, and through the support from donors, the American Red Cross is ready and able to help those affected by TS Isaac.

People can send donations to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Consider making a donation today by visiting www.tallyredcross.org , calling 850-878-6080 or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to your local Red Cross chapter, 1115 Easterwood Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32311. Contributions enable the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters.
