Estuaries Day Sept 28
It's all about the Bay on Sept. 28 as the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR)celebrates National Estuaries Day at its Research and Visitor Center in Eastpoint.The festivities will run from 1:30-6 p.m. and will feature family-friendly activities and exhibits. Maritime Museum Hosts Historic Lectures in September
Sept. 1 - Turpentine Industry
The Apalachicola Maritime Museum will host a talk on the North Florida Turpentine Industry on Saturday, September 1 at 7 pm. ArcheologistBarbara Hines is the featured presentor for the talk which is being held at the AMM facility on Water Street in Apalachicola. Click here for details.
Sept. 22 - Queen Anne's Revenge
AMM will host a talk about the pirate shipwrecks at 7 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the AMM building on Water Street. Franklin Price, of the Bureau of Archaeological Research, will talk about his work on the wreck of Blackbeard the Pirate’s vessel on the North Carolina coast. Click here for details.

Crooked River Lighthouse Hosts Lantern Fest Oct. 26-27
The Crooked River Lighthouse will host the 2012 Lantern Fest on Oct. 26-27. The two-day event will feature a lantern making workshop and evening lantern display, music, dance presentations, storytelling and craft exhibits. A 70 foot pirate ship playground will feature a special dramatic presentation, recalling the souls of those lost at sea. Click here for details.

Civil War Events Highlight Authors in Apalach Sept. 28-29
The Apalachicola Municipal Library will host the Second Annual Authors in Apalach on September 28 & 29. This year's event will feature a Civil War candlelit dinner with Jeff Shaara, author of the NYT bestselling civil war novel "Blaze of Glory." Continuing with that theme, there will also be a ceremonial flag placement on the graves of Civil War veterans that are buried in the Chestnut Street Cemetery.
