The commission voted earlier this month to seek proposals from attorneys and law firms in an effort to save money on their legal costs.

Commissioner Pinki Jackel said she feels the county might want to look at the county attorney’s contract every two years from here on out.

The current county attorney is Michael Shuler; he has represented the board since January of 2003; The Shuler family has been representing the county for nearly 60 years.

Michael Shuler works under contract; he is paid 80 dollars an hour for his work.

On Tuesday, County Director of Administrative Services Alan Pierce said he has now placed a request for proposals in the local newspaper as well as on the Florida association of Counties website.

The deadline for applying for the county attorney’s position is January the 14th; bids will be opened at the county commission meeting on January the 15th.
