Health department provides free flu shots for seafood workers and their families

If you are a seafood worker in Franklin County and have not yet gotten a flu shot this year, you can get them for free from the health department.

All you have to do is show your valid saltwater products license.

The shots are also free for the spouse and children of seafood workers.

The program will save local families 25 dollars per shot; more for people over 65.

The shots are available at the health department in Apalachicola from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday.

And even if you are not a seafood worker, you still need your annual flu vaccination.

Health professionals recommend that everyone get a flu shot every year- especially people with weakened immune systems or long term health problems, as well as pregnant women and residents of nursing homes or other chronic care facilities.

Flu shots are also strongly recommended for children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years.

If you’d like more information about the flu vaccinations, you can call the health department in Apalachicola at 653 -2111.
