Apalachicola Hosts Annual Oyster Cook-off Jan. 18-19
Get out your recipes and join in as Apalachicola hosts the Third Annual Apalachicola Oyster Cook-off on Friday and Satuday, January 18-19, 2013. The Friday event will be an evening silent art auction at the Apalachicola Center for History, Culture & Arts on Water Street. Saturday's festivities are from noon- 5 pm. There will be lots of seafood to sample in addition to oysters.  Childrens' activities are planned as well as live music. Proceeds benefit the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department. Click here to learn more.

SGI Home Tour Feb. 9
The St. George Island Tour of Homes will be held Feb. 9, 2013.The event is sponsored by the St. George Lighthouse Association. Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 on Feb. 9. 

A free kick-off event featuring a presentation on area ecology will be held on Friday, February 8 from 6-8 pm at the St. George Island Fire Station on Pine Street. The actual tour itself will be on Feb. 9. Click here to learn more.  

St. George Island To Host Snowbird Day Feb. 5
Winter visitors to St George Island can look forward to some special treatment next month when the Island hosts its second SGI Snowbird Day on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
 
Events will include a raffle "run" to the local businesses, fishing tournament, lighthouse climb, state park entry and hike, island tour, bridge walk, bingo, a visit to the new Estuarine Nature Center, and dinner with a cash bar.

Mardi Gras Feb. 1-2
Join in on the Franklin County Mardi Gras Festivities on Feb. 1-2, 2013 as the Franklin County Habitat for Humanity hosts its annual Mardi Gras benefit celebration in Apalachicola. There will be a pet parade and concert on Friday, Feb. 1. The group will host a Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, Feb. 2.Click here for details. 
 
African American History Festival Feb. 15-17
This two day festival showcases African American History, Art, and Culture in Apalachicola. Saturday begins with the festival parade at 10 am followed by the official opening ceremonies.There will be live entertainment throughout the two day event. For more information, click here.

Chef Sampler Feb. 10
Join us for the dining experience of the year at the 17th Annual Forgotten Coast Chef's Sampler Sunday, February, 10. Dixie Theatre Kicks off 16th Season of Performance
Culture takes center stage beginning in January as the historic Dixie Theatre kicks off its 2013 Professional Season of music and theatre performances. 
Join two whimsical old-timers on a hope-filled adventure, where dreams have no age limit and love is just a speed date away.
Jan. 11 – Swingin’ Harpoon Blues Band Back for their 2nd season with an award winning style, this band is made up of some of the area’s most talented musicians, playing a mix of Swing and Detroit blues & jazz.
Jan. 12 – London at the Dixie -London Arrington returns to the Dixie stage for his 3rd appearance. Performing our favorite show tunes and some smooth, smooth jazz.
Jan. 13 – Saltwater Music with Del Suggs- A Panhandle favorite back for his 3rd season, Del brings his unique style and his very talented buddies to perform acoustic rock, pop, blues, and folk.
Tallahassee’s premiere ballet company returns to the Dixie after incredible standing ovation performances in 2011 and 2012. Dance at its finest!
Jan. 25-27 - Elvis & Friends do the Dixie  - Tribute artist Todd Alan Herendeen & his Follow That Dream Band have become one of the Dixie Theatre’s most popular shows.

 
Panhandle Players Perform Catfish Moon Feb. 1-3
The Panhandle Players will perform the Comedy Play "Catfish Moon" on Feb. 1-3 at the St. James Bay Golf Resort in Carrabelle. A second performance of the play will run Feb. 8-10 at the Eastpoint Firehouse. Tickets are $15. Click here for the Panhandle Players Spring Performance Schedule.
 
Ilse Newell Concert Series Read Gainesford Jan. 6

Carrabelle Toy Exhibit and AMM Archaeo Cart
It's all about the kids this month in Carrabelle and Apalachicola as exhibits in two of the area museums take us back to childhood.

 The Carrabelle History Museum is hosting an exhibit of vintage toys through January. The exhibit is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. or by appointment. The exhibit features dolls, games trucks and all the toys sure to bring a smile to the baby boomer in all of us! The Carrabelle History Museum is located at 106 S.E. The Apalachicola Maritime Museum is hosting the State of Florida's Archaeo Cart through the end of January at the Museum located along the waterfront in downtown Apalachicola.  The Archaeo Cart is a portable public archaeology classroom that visits museums, libraries, and schools throughout Florida. Students and visitors can tour virtual displays or archaeology sites across Florida, uncover prehistoric and historic timelines, or discover what it takes to think like an archaeologist through an interactive touch-screen program and hands-on educational activites. Click here for more.
