Severe Weather Briefing Packet for Today (December 20)

Summary:
  • Severe thunderstorms will be possible today. Damaging winds will be the main threat, but isolated tornadoes will be possible as well.
  • Main threat should be between 11am EST / 10am CST (west) and 9pm EST (east)
  • Cold air will filter in behind the cold front, with wind chills in most locations reaching at least the freezing mark.
Already early this morning, there have been reports of tornadoes around Mobile, Alabama with isolated supercells ahead of the main squall line. This may be an indication that the environment could be more supportive of severe weather than early indications would have otherwise suggested.
