Vrooman Park basketball court getting better lighting

Children in Eastpoint will soon be able to play basketball at Vrooman Park late into the night.

The County Parks and Recreation is having better lighting installed at the basketball court at Vrooman Park.

Parks and recreation Director Nikki Millender said she took the action after a number of young people in Eastpoint said they like to use the facility, but have a hard time doing so after it gets dark.

Nikki said she has already had the lighting installed by Cates Electric and is now working with Progress Energy to have them activated.

The lights are set on a timer, so they will turn off automatically at 10:30.

She expects the light system to be fully operational sometime next week.
