County commission finds use for old Highway Patrol building

The Franklin County commission has approved a plan for the old Highway Patrol station in Eastpoint – now the board just has to get the building.

The county commission signed the contract to purchase the property and the building last year.

They are getting a good deal – the county is getting 2.6 acres fronting Highway 98 for only 300 dollars.

The contract is still awaiting approval from the Internal Improvement Trust Fund, but once the county gains ownership, the building will be used as an Eastpoint Welcome Center and as the administrative offices for the Franklin County Tourist development Council.

The TDC would then pay for any upgrades and maintenance on the building.
