County commission selects companies for emergency debris removal

County commissioners on Tuesday approved a list of four contractors to provide debris removal services after a major storm.

The county emergency management department began the process of seeking contractors last August so that companies would be ready to provide clean up services when Franklin County is hit by a hurricane or other major storm.

9 companies provided their qualifications for the work; the emergency management office narrowed that list down to the 4 best qualified based on experience, price and availability.

They include Bergeron out of Fort Lauderdale, Crowder/Gulf out of Theodore, Alabama, Ashbritt out of Deer field beach and JB Coxwell out of Jacksonville.

There were no local companies that applied for the work, but Emergency Management Director Pam Brownell said that each company will have to agree in its contract to provide any subcontracting work to local businesses if possible.

Now that the list of companies has been approved the Emergency Management Office will begin working on the contracts.
