Florida saw record tourism numbers in 2012

Over 89 million people visited the Sunshine State in 2012, which may be a new record for Florida tourism.

Preliminary estimates from Visit Florida are that 89.3 million people visited Florida last year, beating the previous record of 87.3 million people set in 2011.

The number of direct travel-related jobs in 2012 was also a record high, with over 1 million Floridians employed in the tourism industry.

VISIT FLORIDA estimates that 10.2 million overseas visitors and 3.6 million Canadians came to Florida in 2012, both of which are record highs

Estimates reflect a 1.2 percent increase in domestic visitors to Florida in 2012 and show that Floridians took a total of 20.3 million in-state pleasure trips.
