Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council considering amendment to red snapper for-hire fishery

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold a number of scoping workshops around the Gulf of Mexico in March and April to get public input on a proposed amendment impacting the red snapper for-hire fishery.

The Council wants to get public input on a days-at-sea pilot program for the fishery.

The scoping workshops are the first step for the Council when it begins developing an amendment.

Issues to be discussed at the workshops include, but are not limited to, the purpose and need for an amendment and the potential management actions that may be considered including the selection of program participants and the establishment of effort and catch validation methods and criteria for program evaluation.

Eight scoping workshops are scheduled around the Gulf.

The closest to our area will be on Wednesday, March the 27th at 6 PM Central time at the Destin Community Center.
