Approved areas of the bay closing to shellfish harvesting at sunset today

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is temporarily closing 2 approved summer harvesting areas of the Apalachicola Bay.

The Department is closing the approved summer shellfish harvesting areas 1621 and 1671 as of sunset today.

Those areas include East hole, hotel bar and nick’s hole.

The action is being taken as a precautionary measure because of the potential for run-off into the water because of very heavy rainfall over the past few days.

Department of Agriculture officials say they will test the waters as soon as possible.
