Ice Festival in August
Celebrate cool at Apalachicola's Festival of Ice on Saturday, August 10 and 17 in Historic Apalachicola as the town salutes Dr. John Gorrie, the inventor of the ice machine. This year's event will feature a lecture on Aug. 10 at the Apalachicola Maritime Museum by author and photographer Elli Morris about her book Cooling the South. An event on Aug. 17 at the Gorrie Museum will feature ice carving, ice ceam and snow cones.
SGI Summer Sizzler
On Saturday, August 10, St. George Island will host the 16th Annual St. George Island Sizzler 5K Race & One Mile Fun Run. On-site registration begins at 3 pm, the one mile fun run begins at5:30 pm and the 5K begins at 6 pm. Benefits the Franklin County Humane Society.For details, click here.

Riverfront Film Festival Oct 19
Don't miss the first annual Apalachicola Riverfront Film Festival on Saturday, October 19th, 2013. This one night event will feature an array of professional independent films from around the country. The outdoor festival will be located along the river’s edge in historic downtown Apalachicola. Join the Apalachicola Riverkeepers on their monthly paddling trip on August 24 in and around the Apalachicola River and Bay. The trips are free to members and $30 for non-members. Oyster and Wildflower Talks in August
The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) will host two educational talks in August at their visitor center in Eastpoint. OnThursday, August 1, come learn about oysters and the reefs they call home. OnThursday, August 8, ANERR will host a wildflower lecture, slideshow and nature walk. Both talks are scheduled for 3 p.m.
ANERR celebratesNational Estuaries Day at its Research and Visitor Center in Eastpoint onSeptember 27. The festivities will run from 1:30-6 p.m. and will feature family-friendly activities and exhibits. The Visitor Center is located near the St. George Island Bridge at 108 Island Drive, Eastpoint.
