Franklin County signs interlocal agreement with Workforce board

Franklin County commissioners have signed an interlocal agreement with the Gulf coast Workforce development board to insure the group continues to provide services to displaced workers in the area.

The Workforce board has been instrumental in helping local seafood workers impacted by the oyster fishery failure in the Apalachicola Bay.

Workforce board director Kim Bodine said the group continues to employ two full-time workers in Franklin County and continues to provide classes on employability skills and other training in the area.

Last year the group spent over 5.7 million dollars in Franklin County, much of that was through grants for the shelling program.

Miss Bodine said there is still enough funding in the current grant to pay for another 20 days of shelling before the end of August.

The workforce board is trying to get more grant money for shelling to continue on after the current grant runs out.
