Estuaries Day Sept.27
The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve celebrates National Estuaries Day at its Research and Visitor Center in Eastpoint on September 27. The festivities will run from 1:30-6 p.m. and will feature family-friendly activities and exhibits.  The Visitor Center is located near the St. George Island Bridge at 108 Island Drive, Eastpoint.

 Riverfront Film Festival Oct 19
Don't miss the first annual Apalachicola Riverfront Film Festival on Saturday, October 19th, 2013. This one night event will feature an array of professional independent films from around the country. Maritime Museum Hosts Full Moon Paddle Trips & Cruises Sept. 18&19
 The Apalachicola Maritime Museum (AMM) will host full moon paddle trip and Starfish cruise trips on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 18 & 19. The paddle trips will depart from AMM's paddle sports facility for a moonlit trip down the Apalachicola River to arrive at the AMM docks.  The paddle group will be accompanied by a support vessel to help ensure safety.  AMM will also feature full moon trips aboard the Starfish departing the AMM docks at 7 PM.  For more details, about the AMM Full Moon trips, please click here.

Paddling Trip September 28
Join the Apalachicola Riverkeepers on their monthly paddling trip on September 28 in and around the Apalachicola River and Bay. The trips are free to members and $30 for non-members. In addition to their monthly paddling trips, the Apalachicola Riverkeepers are also hosting longer paddling excursions (10+) miles which are best suited for paddlers with experience. Click here to learn more.

Snook Season Begins Sept. 1
The recreational harvest season for snook opensSept. 1 statewide. Unique to the region, snook are one of the many reasons Florida is the Fishing Capital of the World.  While the fishery is more than 90 percent catch-and-release, the FWC encourages anglers to use moderation when determining whether or not to take a snook home.
 
Fish Free Sept. 1
Governor Rick Scott and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced a saltwater license-free fishing day for September 1. On this day, Florida residents and visitors will not be required to have a license to fish saltwater areas of the state. License-free fishing days, including freshwater days, were held earlier this year on April 13 and June 8 for freshwater and June 1 for saltwater. The Commission is considering adding two more saltwater and two more freshwater license-free fishing days before the end of 2013. All other regulations still apply.

Ice Carving Rescheduled for Sept 7
An ice carving event, originally scheduled for Aug. 17 as part of the annual Apalachicola Festival of Ice, has been rescheduled forSept. 7 at the Gorrie Museum in Historic Apalachicola. The event, honoring Dr. John Gorrie, father of modern refrigeration, will take place from12-5 p.m. and feature music, games and ice carving competition.
 
Historic Society To Host Heritage Dinner
The Apalachicola Historical Society will host a candlelit Heritage Dinner on Sept 27as a kickoff event to its popular Fall Ghost Tour in October. Author Robert Sanders who wrote a book about early Apalachicola residents, will be the guest speaker.
