Franklin County Commission meets Tuesday to discuss "nuisance abatement" ordinance

Franklin county commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday to discuss a Nuisance Abatement Ordinance which should make it easier for the county to clean up private property after a disaster.

The ordinance, if passed, would allow debris removal crews to go on to private property in some circumstances to remove public safety hazards from private property after a hurricane or other major disaster.

That could include fallen trees that might threaten a roadway or other public safety hazards if the landowner does not do the work himself for whatever reason.

FEMA would have to approve any work that would require the county to go on public property, but the county would then be able to get FEMA reimbursement for the work that they do.

Other items on Tuesday’s county commission agenda include a library update from library director Anne Birchwell, and an update on activities at the Franklin County Health Department.

The full agenda is posted at oysterradio.com.

The county commission meeting begins at 9 tomorrow morning at the Franklin county courthouse Annex in Apalachicola.
