Local truckers, especially those with tractor-trailers,
might be able to find some work hauling fossilized oyster shells from
Carrabelle to Telogia.
Fossilized shell
is currently being shipped from Gulf Coast Aggregates near Carrabelle to
rebuild two Maryland oyster sanctuaries.
Over the next 9 months about 112,500 tons of shell will be shipped;
that’s about 50 train cars of fossilized shell every 10 to 14 days between now
and September.
They are specifically looking for tractor trailers, but it
is possible other types of trucks might be considered.
