Oyster Cookoff a delicious success

Thousands of people came out Saturday to take part in the 4th annual Oyster Cook-off to raise money for the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department.

The weather was warm enough so people could sit outside, listen to live music, and enjoy the aromas of the various oyster dishes.

12 teams took part in the cook-off, and dishes varied from oyster chowder and casserole to a number of "baked in the half-shell" dishes.

No two were the same.

The day went to The Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department for the second year in a row.

Jeff Ilardi of Eastpoint took second place – he won the event in 2011.

Third place went to Earl Solomon.

The Peoples choice award went to the Owl CafĂ©’ which raised 2222.00 through sales at their booth.

Total earnings have not been tallied – but organizers think they eclipsed last year’s total of thirty thousand dollars.

All of the money will help the Apalachicola Fire Department.
