Port St. Joe taking part in Competitive Florida Partnership pilot program

The City of Port St. Joe is one of four communities around Florida taking part in a pilot program designed to improve local economies in rural areas of the state.

The Competitive Florida Partnership is being done through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

The program is designed to help rural communities value and market local assets and challenge them to set realistic goals for advancing their economic development vision.

The program focuses on developing and promoting existing local resources including historical and cultural resources; natural landscapes; financial assets; transportation networks, communications facilities, and commercial buildings.

DEO will work with the selected rural communities to identify and market these assets and facilitate promotional opportunities to bring economic development to their community.

The Department of Economic Opportunity will assist the communities in creating strategic economic development plans that are tailored for each community’s unique assets.

The other communities taking part in the pilot program are the City of Newberry, the City of White Springs, and Desoto County.
