The National
Marine Fisheries Services has issued a temporary rule reducing the Gulf greater
amberjack recreational catch target and catch limit for 2014.
The annual recreational catch
target for greater amberjack is 1.1 million pounds, and the recreational catch
limit is 1.3 million pounds.
Last year, however, recreational
fishermen caught over 267 thousand more pounds of greater amberjack then they
were allotted.
Because of last year’s
overfishing, this years catch target was cut to just over 862 thousand pounds
and the catch limit to just over 1 million pounds.
The catch target and catch limit
should return to normal next year.
The lower 2014 catch limit and
catch target for greater amberjack took effect on April the 23rd.
