Required oyster harvesting seminar to be shown 5 days a week beginning Monday

Starting next week the Florida Department of Agriculture will begin showing the required 20 minute educational seminar for shellfish harvesters five days a week instead of three.

The 20 minute educational training program is a new requirement which oystermen must complete to apply for their Apalachicola Bay Oyster Harvesters license.

Currently the training is held every Tuesday through Thursday at 3 PM at the shellfish center in Apalachicola.

Beginning on May the 5th the course will be offered at the Shellfish Monday through Friday at 3 PM.

The training is required by the Federal Food and Drug Administration and replaces the two hour course that first time oyster harvesters had to take in previous years.

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will begin selling the Apalachicola Bay Oyster Harvesting License on Monday, May 19th

The licenses must be purchased before June 30th.
