Public restrooms in Apalachicola to receive Historic Preservation Award

The Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation has recognized the public restroom facilities in Apalachicola for a Historic Preservation Award.

The restroom project will receive an award for outstanding achievement in the New Construction category at the 2014 Tallahassee/Leon County Historic Preservation Awards Ceremony scheduled for May 8th at the Florida Historic Capitol Museum in Tallahassee.

The project was designed by Historic Preservation Architect Mark Tarmey to keep in harmony with the historic ambience of downtown Apalachicola

The cost to construct totaled $300K and was funded through a Community Development Block Grant.

The restrooms were opened to the public last October.

The restroom construction project marks the second city project to be recognized in the last two-years for keeping in sync with other historic structures in Apalachicola

The other project was the restoration of Historic Holy Family and it was recognized in 2012 by the Trinity Church Historic Apalachicola Home & Garden Tour.

That project received the Tour’s Passion for Preservation Award.
