Area 1612 reopens to oyster harvesting on Wednesday morning

Area 1612 of the Apalachicola bay will reopen to oyster harvesting on Wednesday morning.

Area 1612 is the conditionally approved Winter West Shellfish Harvest Area – it was closed on Sunday..

It will reopen at sunrise tomorrow.


The department of Agriculture says fecal coliform tests show the site meets the standards to be re-opened to oyster harvesting.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced
that the following shellfish area(s) will be re-opened at sunrise on
Wednesday May 21, 2014 for the harvest of oysters, clams, and mussels.
In this context, shellfish does not include scallops, shrimp, or crabs.
