Red snapper season opens in Florida on Saturday

The recreational red snapper season in Gulf state waters opens Saturday.

The red snapper season in state waters will remain open for 52 days and close again on July the 15th.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said opening the season the Saturday before Memorial Day will allow red snapper fishing through an important holiday weekend, helping attract more visitors and bringing economic benefits to coastal communities.

The federal red snapper season will begin on June the 1st and will be only 9 days long.

The daily bag limit for red snapper will remain 2 per person in Gulf state and federal waters.

The minimum size limit is 16 inches total length.

There is a zero daily bag and possession limit for captain and crew of for-hire vessels.
