Florida Forest Service Cautions Public Due to Severe Weather and Flooding.

Florida’s State Forests being closed to public due to recent rainfall and flooding.

Tallahassee, FL –Florida Forest Service urge Floridians and visitors to Florida’s State Forests to be extremely cautious due to severe weather that has caused heavy rainfall and flooding.

Pine Log State Forest, Point Washington State Forest and Twin Rivers State Forests are currently closed to the public due to safety concerns from the rainfall and flooding within the areas. Likewise, Lake Talquin State Forest has closed the following tracts of land to the public: Highway 20 Tract, North Ochlockonee Tract and South Ochlockonee Tract.

 “The Florida Forest Service has the responsibility to manage more than 1 million acres of public forest land,” said James Karels, Florida Forest Service State Forester. “By assessing the impacts to the forests from recent weather conditions and closing unsafe areas, we can reduce the risk to visitors. “
