Local students show gains in writing skills

The Florida Department of Education has released FCAT writing scores for Florida’s 4^th and 8th and 10^th graders and overall our students showed some improvement in their writing scores.

Results posted at the Department of Education website show that 46 percent of Franklin County 4^th graders scored a three and a half or higher on the writing portion of the test, that’s the same as last year.

At the Franklin county school 40 percent of 4^th graders scored a passing grade, at the ABC school it was 56 percent.

51 percent of Franklin County 8^th graders scored a 3.5 or higher on the writing section up from 34 percent last year.

63 percent of 8^th graders at the ABC School met the minimum standard in writing, 41 percent did so at the Franklin county school.

37 percent of 10^th graders got a passing grade on the writing section of the FCAT – up from 36 percent the year before.
