Oyster harvesting seminar now offered 9 till 4 at the Old Apalachicola Reserve at Scipio Creek

If you are an oyster harvester and have not yet taken the seminar required to apply for your oyster harvesting license, the Department of Agriculture is providing some additional opportunities to see it.

The 20 minute seminar will be offered today through the end of the month from 9-4 each weekday at the old Reserve facility next to the shellfish center at Scipio Creek in Apalachicola.

The seminar is required by the Federal Food and Drug Administration and replaces the two hour course that first time oyster harvesters had to take in previous years.

If you have any questions you can call Extension Director Erik Lovestrand at 653-9337.

And don’t forget to buy your Apalachicola Bay Oyster Harvesting Licenses before the end of the month..

You have to have the license to commercially harvest oysters from the
Apalachicola Bay System beginning July 1st.

The licenses cost of 100 dollars for Florida residents and 500 dollars for non-residents.

The licenses are for sale Monday through Friday at the Shellfish Center in Apalachicola

The Shellfish center is at 260 Dr. Frederick S. Humpheries Street near the Scipio Creek boat basin.
