New members named to Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council

The US Commerce Department has appointed two new members and one returning member to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council.

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is one of 8 regional fishery councils that help shape the management of fisheries in US waters with a focus on ending overfishing, rebuilding fish stocks, and achieving and maintaining sustainable fisheries and vibrant fishing communities.

Last week Dr. Pam Dana of Destin was reappointed for a second term on the council.

She owns Sure Lure Charter Company in Destin and is the former director of the FL Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development.

New members of the council are Captain David Walker of Alabama who serves as the president of Walker Fishing Fleet.. 

Dr. Gregory Stunz of Texas was also named to the commission.

Dr. Stunz is a professor of marine biology at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and has published more than 40 scientific papers and technical reports directly related to fisheries in Texas and the Gulf of Mexico.
