Work is now complete on the renovations at
the old Highway patrol building east of Eastpoint so it can now serve as a
visitor center and maritime heritage center.
The county purchased the 1100 foot building
and about 4 acres of land around it last year and agreed to spend 100 thousand
dollars on renovations.
The work included making the existing bathroom handicapped
accessible and expanding the interior space by utilizing some existing storage
space.
The final cost of the work was just over 78 thousand
dollars.
The new visitors’ center will be managed by the Tourist
Development council, and the TDC offices will also be house at the site.
County Commissioner Pinki Jackel said she expects there to
be an open house in December in conjunction with a gift distribution event for
local children.
