Deputy Shane Ferrell was named the 2014 Deputy Sheriff of the Year and Jennifer Mathes was named the 2014 Employee of the Year by Sheriff Mike Harrison. This distinguished honor is awarded to one Deputy Sheriff and employee annually and is part of a new employee recognition program implemented by Sheriff Harrison. Deputy Ferrell and Mrs. Mathes were nominated by fellow co-workers, who submitted their nominations for the honor to the Sheriff.
Deputy Ferrell started his law enforcement career with the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office in April 2013 and was assigned to the Patrol Division. He was recently reassigned to the Narcotics Division where he is responsible for conducting investigations related to illegal narcotics and vice crimes.
Mrs. Mathes, a 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator, has been with the GCSO for a total of eleven years and serves as a dispatcher in the Communications Division. Mrs. Mathes is responsible for dispatching law enforcement officers, EMS personnel and volunteer firefighters to emergency and non-emergency calls in Gulf County.
