TALLAHASSEE, FL – January 29, 2015 – Over 55 and looking for something fun and rewarding to do? The North Florida Senior Companion Program through partnerships with Big Bend Hospice in Madison County and Gulf County Senior Citizens Association, Inc in Franklin County are currently accepting applications from seniors who would like to join the program. All Senior Companion volunteers receive a tax-free stipend, pre and on-going service training, on-duty insurance, transportation assistance, paid holidays and leave, and an opportunity to impact the lives of others.
Individuals age 55+, who meet certain guidelines, serve as Senior Companion Volunteers by providing 20+ hours of service in the homes of other seniors in need, including meal preparation, light housekeeping, assisting with personal needs and companionship. The Senior Companion Program, which began in 1974, assists frail seniors maintain their independence in an effort to delay or prevent nursing home placement by allowing them to “age in place.”
SCP is federally funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service and is sponsored by Elder Care Services, Inc. Services are provided in 15 North Florida Counties through partnerships with other organizations similarly focused on improving the quality of life for seniors.
Elder Care Services, Inc. is on a mission to help seniors maintain their independence, improve their quality of life and “age in place” at home through a wide range of services and programs, including the Senior Companion Program (SCP). SCP empowers seniors to stay active and healthy by touting their skills, talents and experience to meet the needs of other frail seniors.
