Eastpoint Volunteer fire department raises 15K at rib cookoff

Vrooman Park in Eastpoint was filled with rib lovers on Saturday as people came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and help raise money for the Eastpoint Volunteer Fire Department.

The annual event helps fund the fire department’s budget – the event raised about 15 thousand dollars for the fire department.

The Kickin’ Ash team from Apalachicola took top honors in the cooking contest.

The Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce team took second place as well as the “Best Display” award.

Team Loco, with Lee Edmiston and Roy Ogles came in third.

Big Top supermarket received an honorable mention this year – the team also won the People’s choice award by raising the most money for the fire department.

Besides all of the food which also included apple dumplings and ice cream, there was also a silent auction, a liars contest and live music.
