Tourism is looking strong in Franklin County.
Curt Blair from the Franklin county Tourist Development
Council said that tourism through November of last year was up about 9 percent
from the previous fiscal year.
He said that February was also a record month for the number
of people visiting our local visitor’s centers.
The Apalachicola site had over 1600 visitors, followed by
over 650 on St. George Island, 322 in Eastpoint and 167 visitors in Carrabelle.
In total 2750 people went through one of the local visitor
centers in February.
He said we’ll see how that translates into revenue from the tourist
tax in a couple of months.
And even though Franklin county doesn’t actively seek spring
break crowds, Mister Blair pointed out that our area did rank 17th
in a recent poll of top spring break locations.
