Chimene Johnson recognized as one of Florida’s top performing principals

The Florida Taxwatch group has recognized Apalachicola Bay charter School principal Chimene Johnson as one of Florida’s top performing principals.
Mrs. Johnson is one of 6 principals who will receive the Florida Taxwatch Principal Leadership Award this year
She has served as principal of the ABC school since 2010.
During that time the ABC school has consistently been given an A or B grade by the state of Florida.
The Principal Leadership Award is based on student achievement gains in reading and mathematics in schools that have a high percentage of students with disabilities, students designated as English as Second Language Learners and students eligible for free and reduced lunch.
The award is the only honor given to principals who exceed expected learning gains for at-risk students in low-income, high-risk schools.
Florida Taxwatch doesn’t take nominations for the award – it is an entirely a data driven program.
Mrs. Johnson and all of the other principals will be recognized at a ceremony in Orlando on September the 24th as well as at the State Board of Education meeting in October.

The recognition also comes with a financial award through the Florida lottery and a number of public and private groups.
