There is now a historical marker on the future site of
the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum.
Camp
Gordon Johnston Association President Tony Minichiello and Assistant Curator
Manual Gass erected the Historical Marker last week on a museum owned lot near
Carrabelle Beach.
The
property was used to train US Forces for the invasion of Normandy, Italy, North
Africa and the Pacific Theater.
The
museum is currently located at the Carrabelle Municipal Complex but because of
the deteriorating condition of the complex, the museum is trying to find the
money to move to the new location.
A
request for 500 thousand dollars in state money to build a 6000 square foot
museum building near Carrabelle beach was vetoed by the governor this year.
The
Florida Heritage marker was sponsored by Camp Gordon Johnston Association and
The Florida Department of State.
