Work will begin in earnest this
week on a project to expand and renovate Vrooman Park in Eastpoint.
The project includes moving the
existing playground and adding a new T-ball field.
Fonda Davis, who heads up
Franklin County’s Parks and Recreation Department, said crews will begin
tearing down two of the three pavilions near the parking lot this week and
moving much of the existing playground equipment to that location.
There will also be some new
playground equipment added.
Once that’s done, the county
plans to replace the existing T-ball field, which is too small, with a
regulation sized field with all of the required fencing.
In order to get a regulation
sized field at the site it will require that the paved walking trail in that
area of the park be moved back about 12 feet.
The work is being paid for
through a state FURDAP grant.
