The
Department of Agriculture will close area 1622 to Oyster harvesting at sunset on
Sunday.
1622
is the Conditionally Approved Winter West Shellfish Harvest Area.
The
area is being closed because of high river levels caused by heavy rains earlier
in the week.
The
Apalachicola River rose to nearly 16 feet at Blountstown on Wednesday and
Thursday and that water is now making its way into the Apalachicola Bay.
The
river is expected to begin receding over the weekend and fall below flood stage
early next week.
Biologists
will continue to take water samples from the site before reopening it to oyster
harvesting.
