The US Army Corps
of engineers will hold a public meeting in Eastpoint this afternoon to get
public input on its proposed Master Water
Control Manual for the Apalachicola Chattahoochee Flint river system.
The manual is the guide
used by Corps of Engineers to operate the five reservoirs on the Chattahoochee
River.
Many in Florida say the manual
does not require that the Corps provide enough fresh water for the Apalachicola
Bay.
Local county commissioners have
issued statements criticizing the proposed manual and 22 of Florida’s 29
members of congress have also urged the Army Corps of Engineers to address the
lack of freshwater flow to the Apalachicola Bay in the draft Master Water
Control Manual.
Now the public is being urged
to speak up.
The
Corps of Engineers will be in Eastpoint on Monday, November 9th to
get public input.
The
meeting will be held from 4 till 7 at the Apalachicola National Estuarine
Research reserve Nature Center at 108 Island Drive in Eastpoint.
Anyone
with an interest in the Apalachicola bay including fishermen, business owners
and residents are urged to attend and make comment on the record.
