Public comments sought on NOAA Fisheries proposal to hold back a percentage of the commercial red snapper quota

Today is the last day to comment on a NOAA Fisheries Proposed Rule to withhold a percentage of the 2016 red snapper commercial quota in the Gulf of Mexico.
This proposal would withhold about 352 thousand pounds of the 2016 red snapper commercial quota in the Gulf of Mexico – which is about 5 percent of the total.
The action is being proposed because of the likely passage of new rules that would increase the red snapper allocation for the recreational sectors from 49 percent to 51 and a half percent.
If that change passes and the new allocations take effect on January 1st and the quota is not held back then NOAA Fisheries has no way to get it back it for re-distribution to the recreational sectors quota.
If you would like to comment on the proposal – you can comment on-line at the federal rulemaking portal at regulations.gov.
Comments are being accepted through today.

Electronic Submission: Go to the federal e Rulemaking Portal at: www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;D=NOAA-NMFS-2015-0121, complete the required fields, and enter or attach your comments. NOAA Fisheries will accept anonymous comments.
