Red tide is
still showing up in water samples taken from our area.
Red Tide is an organism that in large enough
concentrations can kill fish and cause skin, throat and lung irritation in
humans.
According to
the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, red tide was found in very low to
high concentrations in 12 samples collected in and alongshore of Bay County;
and background to medium concentrations in 2 samples collected inshore of Gulf
County.
It
was not found in samples taken from Franklin County last week.
FWC continues to
receive widespread reports of extensive fish kills.
To date, 77 reports
of fish kills have been reported in Northwest Florida especially between Panama
City Beach and Pensacola.
Respiratory irritation has also
been reported in a number of locations.
State officials say they expect little
movement of the red tide bloom over the short term.
