Educational Opportunities at the Florida Main Street Quarterly Meeting
January 25-26, 2016 in Apalachicola

Florida Main Street has announced plans to hold its statewide winter quarterly meeting in Apalachicola on January 25 - 26, 2016, inside the Battery Park Community Center located at 1 Bay Avenue. Main Street Directors from around the state will be attending sessions on “Leading the Charge: Redeveloping your downtown through brick and mortar ventures.” Interested members of the public are also welcome to register. The cost of registration is just $25.
Presentations will be given on Great American Main Street Communities, Main Street Real Estate Strategies, Historic Tax Credits, Retrofitting Historic Buildings into Restaurants, and Funding Your Project.
One of the speakers will be Bridgette Kelch, Executive Director of Downtown Washington, Inc. in Missouri. She has a degree Historic Preservation and is also one of the seven founding members of Missouri Main Street Connection, the state-wide Main Street non-profit. Kelch will be discussing the success of her Main Street program which was designated a Great American Main Street. The conference will also include a roundtable discussion.
Florida Main Street is a technical assistance program administered by the Florida Department of State’s Bureau of Historic Preservation, Division of Historical Resources, for traditional historic commercial districts.
Quarterly meetings provide continuing education, fresh ideas, and networking opportunities for Main Street directors, staff, board members, but anyone interested in downtown economic vitality and historic preservation is welcome to attend.
Coordinator of the Florida Main Street Program, Ronni Wood, set the agenda and speakers for the meeting. “Apalachicola is such a wonderful destination for meetings like this. We have some great presentations lined up, and I always enjoy the opportunity to spend some time there.”

To register, bring your check for $25 made out to Historic Apalachicola Main Street to the registration table Monday morning, January 25, at 8:00 a.m. at the Apalachicola Community Center at 1 Bay Avenue.

Main Street is is a trademarked Four Point Approach supported by eight guiding principles. As a unique economic development tool, the Main Street Four-Point Approach is the foundation for local initiatives to revitalize downtown districts by leveraging local assets—from cultural or architectural heritage to local enterprises and community pride.
We aim to protect our historic character, strengthen our business community, promote gathering places for friends and family, hold outstanding events, and honor our history.
