Weems orders new ambulance to replace one damaged in crash

Franklin County should have a new ambulance in place in November to replace one that was totaled in an accident with a log truck in Gulf County in April.
The accident happened on April 26th on Highway 98 at Beacon Hill Beach.
The log truck was heading east on Highway 98 when it came to traffic stopped in the eastbound lane.
The driver of the log truck slammed on the brakes and the unloaded log truck jackknifed into the westbound lane directly into the ambulance’s path.
The driver of the log truck was charged with careless driving.
Weems Chief Financial officer John Graham said the hospital has already ordered a replacement ambulance that should be here in November.
The new ambulance will cost 166 thousand dollars; Insurance will pay 126 thousand of that.
The county will have to cover the rest of the cost, though in the end the money will likely come from the trucking company at fault in the crash.

The costs are only for the ambulance itself, Mister Graham said they are still totaling the value of the equipment inside the ambulance that was damaged.
