County commissioners are once
again investigating a complaint from a homeowner at Grammercy Plantation just
east of Eastpoint.
Homeowner Ted Ruffner asked the
county this month to step in and stop a mining company that is currently at
work on a piece of property in the development.
It’s the second time he has made
the request.
Mister Ruffner, who has lived in
Grammercy for 11 years, said that a piece of property that was intended to be
used for a spray field is now being mined by a private company.
The property, he said, was listed
in the Grammercy development order as a location for a spray field, and if the
development ever connected to Eastpoint sewer it was to be turned in to
communal property for conservation and recreation.
He said the property was sold a
few years ago to the private mining company and the sale violated the
development order.
Mister Ruffner said he doesn’t
want to take the issue to court, and he feels the county should be able to stop
the mining by enforcing its own zoning code.
The issue was initially brought
to the county last year and the county attorney said he thought the problem had
been fixed.
Commissioners asked the county
attorney to meet with the developers and neighboring homeowners again to see
why there is still a problem.
