TROPICAL DEPRESSION #9 ADVISORY

As of 1:00 PM TD #9 was:
Located Near 24.0N 87.2W at 30/1500z position accurate within 25 NM
Moving W/NW or 290 Degrees at 6KT
Maximum Sustained Winds: 30KT with Gust to 40KT
This storm is expected to turn to the East tonight or sometime in the morning. There is still a lot of uncertainty with this storm. Gradual strengthening is expected over the next 2 days as the system slowly makes its turn to the Northwest and eventually North. There is a small chance that this system will become a hurricane before reaching the Northern Florida Gulf Coast.
Tropical Storm force winds could affect Franklin County as early as Thursday morning.
Storm Surge will be a concern with inundation values predicted to be at 1-2 feet above normal.
Franklin County is in the Cone of Uncertainty. We are asking that all citizens who live along the coastline or are prone to surge flooding to start making preparations. This includes but is not limited to:
- Secure yard items such as chairs, umbrellas, etc.
- Secure Boats and Vehicles – This includes moving to higher ground.
- Make sure your disaster kit is ready and accessible.
Please monitor the weather closely for the next several days.
There is an elevated risk of Rip Current for the next several days. Please Use Caution!
Sand Bags are available at the Franklin County EOC, 28 Airport Road, Apalachicola. Sand bags are limited to 10 bags per person and only if you are prone to coastal flooding or your house is on ground level.
