There
will be a new face on the Franklin County School board in the coming weeks.
Challenger Carlton Whaley defeated incumbent Pam Shiver to
represent District 5 on the school board.
Whaley picked up about 54 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s
primary election.
George Thompson will continue to represent District 1 on the
school board; he defeated Melonie Inzetta taking nearly 60 percent of the vote.
Teresa Ann Martin will continue to represent District 3 in
Apalachicola.
She took over 71 percent of the vote over challenger Barry
Hand.
Frank Stephens from Eastpoint won in the republican race for
school superintendent, taking over 55 percent of the republican vote over Mac
McMillan.
Traci Moses took the Democrat vote in a three person race.
She took nearly 55 percent of the vote, followed by Sue
Summers with 28 percent and Robert Murray with about 17 percent of the vote.
Traci Moses and Frank Stephens will face off against
Stephanie Howze Jones in the general election for school superintendent in
November.
In statewide races, local democrats voted for Patrick Murphy
for US Senator and Steve Crapps for Congress.
Franklin county democrats also voted overwhelmingly for Jack
Campbell for State attorney.
Local republicans voted for Marco Rubio for US Senate and
Neal Dunn for Congress.
Nearly 70 percent of local voters voted yes on
constitutional amendment 4.
Voter turnout for the primary election was just under 50
percent.
