Franklin County approves 50 million dollar budget

The Franklin County Commission held its final public budget hearing on Monday and approved its 50.4 million dollar budget with very little discussion.

The new budget will take effect on October the 1st.

Next year’s budget is about 6 million dollars more than the current budget – though local taxpayers will only cover about 450 thousand dollars of the increase.

In total, local taxpayers will pay a little over 11.1 million dollars next year which is about 450 thousand dollar more than the current year.

The increase is coming from a 165 thousand dollar increase in the sheriff’s office budget as well as an over 250 thousand dollar increase in the subsidy to the local ambulance service.

There was also a 9 and a half percent increase in the county’s health insurance premiums which added over 113 thousand dollars to the budget.

Commissioners this year also approved an across the board 1000 dollar pay increase for county workers.
