People
are showing a growing interest in Franklin County.
Bed
tax revenues are up 13% over 2015 so far this year, according to the
latest state collection figures released by the Franklin County
Tourist Development Council.
The
TDC has also seen increased visitor center check-ins, more website
visits and a growing number of people signing up to receive
information about the area.
The
TDC said more than 1600 visitors checked into one of the four visitor
centers in Apalachicola, Carrabelle, Eastpoint and St. George Island
during September and more than 20 thousand people have stopped at one
of the centers since the beginning of the year.
Traffic
to the TDC’s website Saltyflorida.com has also increased also with
an average of more than 21,000 visits to the website each month -
hits to the website are strongest from potential visitors interested
in places to stay.
The
Tourist Development Council continues to look for new ways to draw
attention to Franklin County.
The
TDC’s marketing plans for 2017 will include rolling out a new
website, hosting a series of six Coastal Getaway contests, and
funding of some new techie-themed events including a Pokemon Go event
and a geo-cache contest.
The
TDC also approved funding to market a month-long series of activities
and events next April for the promotion and preservation of
Apalachicola’s historic shotgun houses.
