Gumbo cook-off raises 2400 for

The First annual Gumbo Cookoff benefiting the Franklin County Fire Victim Relief Fund raised nearly 2400 dollars Saturday.

The Fire Victim Relief Fund was created to help local families who need help after losing their homes in fires.

1st place in the gumbo cook-off went to Les Juneau and Charles Crosby calling themselves Team Tiger Dawgs.

The Apalachicola Bay chamber of commerce took 2nd place and the Eastpoint Fire Department came in third.

The Eastpoint Fire Department also won the people choice award which means they raised the most money by selling their gumbo.

Saturday's event included a car show.

The Winner of the Car Show was Jessica Wards Purple Camaro.

She received 88 votes out of the 200 cast – the winner was chosen by the public who each donated 1 dollar to vote

Organizers thanked all the car owners and the competitors in the cook-off that came out to support others in need in our community – and said plans are already in the works for a bigger event next year.

The group also want to thank Jimmy and Shirley Sapp owners of the Red Pirate Family Bar and Grill where the cook-off was held.

And if you couldn't make the cook-off but still want to donate to the Franklin County Fire Victim Relief Fund, call Richard at 850-370-0655.
