Florida's
price gouging law was put into effect this week out of concerns for
Hurricane Matthew which is moving through the Caribbean and could
affect Florida.
Matthew
is a very powerful hurricane and while it is forecast to travel east
of Florida, you can never be too careful.
Governor
Rick Scott declared
a state
of emergency in
all Florida counties
in preparation for the potential impact of the category four
hurricane.
As
the entire state of Florida is under a declared state of emergency,
Florida’s price gouging law applies statewide.
Florida's
price-gouging law law prohibits extreme increases in the price of
essential commodities, such as food, ice, gas, hotels, lumber and
water during the declared state of emergency.
The
law also includes rent for dwelling units and self-storage
facilities.
Anyone
who suspects price gouging should report it to the Attorney General’s
Office by calling 1-866-9-NO-SCAM.
