The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve is hosting a new art exhibit in the Nature Center. "Art From the Sea, Works by Robert Simmons" combines photographs taken using light and electron microscopes with constructed art to illustrate both the beauty of the natural world and man's connection with the estuarine environment.
"Art From the Sea presents a view of things that most people never get to see," said Simmons. "I hope it will provide some insight into the natural world and provoke thought about how we interact with it."
Simmons has long been involved with studies of both the natural and human environments. Simmons' studies of interactions between microscopic marine predators, prey and natural degradation of shells lead to spellbinding images of marine life rarely seen before. As an environmental microbiology professional, he has studied the effects of human habitation and plastics on the estuarine environment.
The exhibit is free to the public and will be on display from Oct. 14, 2016 through Feb. 25, 2017 during normal visiting hours. The public is invited to an opening reception Friday, Oct. 14. For additional information, call 850-670-7700.
